Ever heard a publishing myth? You know, those myths that give you the idea that you have to do something crazy to get published, like sell your soul (or at least give away your life’s savings?) Well today’s publishing myth is one I actually wish were true!

Check out Editorial Anonymous’ recent post in response to a concern she got from a writer about Mormons in publishing.

I am a Mormon housewife, and I just happen to have three kids, but no one ever told me about the Mafia! I want in, dang it!

All joking aside, there are several successful authors who are in fact Mormon, (officially The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,) Stephenie Meyer only being one of them. But there are also many successful authors, who are Jewish, Catholic, Baptist, Muslim, Hindu, agnostic, and Atheist. Yes, even the unbelievers can write good books.

So before anyone jumps in or out of the water, remember that it won’t really have anything to do with your publishing status. (Although secretly I am hoping for the Mormon Mafia to contact me and offer representation.)

  1. Found you from the comments on Editorial Anonymous. The BYU Mafia myth is brilliant (and so is that Mafia license plate). Methinks I’ll add you to my blog roll. Good luck with your writing.
