This is the first time I’ve posted since I got my new website and my blog was integrated, so this is a test. Can you hear me? If you can, go to iceybooks.com and see RUMP’s trailer (It’s so fun!) and enter to win a SIGNED copy of RUMP! Yes, I just got some copies of RUMP hot off the press last Friday. Count down, friends. Lift off is in 21 days!

Hey Liesel, LOVE your new blog/website. Have a HUGE question for ya….you inspired me to sign up with ICL (I think you said you studied with them and you had good things to say). I got accepted and my instructor’s name is …well, I won’t say …but i was curious cause this instructor seems like she did PB’s and was published long ago etc…
I’d kind of like a VERY modern instructor (YOU would be perfect 🙂 ).
I AM interested in picture books….BUT middle grade and YA intrigue me even greater…along with perhaps nonfiction pieces, freelance work , etc…
I love your kind of work…a TON of YA (fantasy AND contemporary especially!….”Butter”, Stephanie Perkins, Tahera Mafi, “Audrey Wait!”, etc), I love MG (funny ones like “Milo” or “Dear Dumb Diary” or others such as “Wonder” , “Remarkable”, “Kat the Incorrigible”, etc..
Also love a lot of adult books, etc
And again would love to study more on chapter books and PB’s …who knows….but anyway, would LOVE your opinion cause someone advised me that before I fully enroll (deadline is march 27th…SOON) that I should speak up now to ask that I get a different instructor….can you PLEASE recommend some and PLEASE contact me via my email ASAP?
I KNOW you are super busy so I hope hope hope you get this ASAP and can take a couple minutes to respond. Thanks!!!

Hi Jill, if you’re not sure about your ICL instructor I’d suggest just looking at some of the other instructors listed and asking for one you feel would be a better fit. I don’t know who’s there anymore, so I really can’t give any personal recommendations on who would be a good fit for you. At the end of the day, the ICL lesson materials are the same across the board. You could try this instructor out and always change if they don’t seem to be working for you.

Thanks for your response Liesel. Hopefully things will work out. I hope hope ICL is a good choice (there are SO many online writing courses, short or long, that could possibly get me in the habit and do a better job)…but I need to try SOMETHING…so hopefully ICL will be the right one ….

You’re right, there are lots of choices, and many great writing programs that can really help, but I feel at the end of the day it’s up to you. Just make time to write. The rest will come. Best of luck!
